The Chattahoochee Trail Horse Association, Inc. (CTHA) was formed in 1991 by several dedicated and enthusiastic horseback trail riders who shared a dream.
The dream was to create a network of interconnecting horse trails across the Chattahoochee National Forest - sort of an equine Appalachian Trail.

CTHA is an Association Member of the Georgia Horse Council (GHC), the Equestrian Land Conservation Resource (ELCR) and the Georgia Pinhoti Trail Association (GPTA). CTHA is a sponsor of the Southeastern Equestrian Trails Conference (SETC). We participate in the annual ELCR Trail Trotters Project on National Trails Day and interface with public land managers to present a unified equine voice. We stress volunteerism, trail etiquette and safety, horse care, environmental sensitivity and relaxed, family-oriented events.
The CTHA Officers and Board of Directors meet regularly to plan and manage activities. Members are always invited to attend and become involved. Our membership is made up of people with many different equine interests and types of horses, all sharing a common love of horses and trail riding with a serious desire to have places to ride now and in the future.
As we pursued our goals, we recognized the need for a better-defined organizational structure to enable us to address and overcome public land management's objections to our goals, those being financial, education and manpower.
In 1993, CTHA was incorporated as a 501(c)4 non-profit organization and is now the vehicle through which the dream is becoming a reality. The Bull Mountain Horse Trail and adjoining Jake Mountain Horse Camp (See the map here) facilities near Dahlonega, Georgia, currently with two horse trailer parking areas and about 50 miles of trails, are the first results of our efforts. We are continuing to work with Forest Service and DNR to expand our trail network and facilities. Of course, we know how to play as well as work, offering members the best trail rides to be experienced anywhere.
