Bussey Point Recreation Area is a peninsula of almost 3000 acres with miles of shoreline located along Clark Hill Lake  (Lake Thurmond) and is located between Augusta and Lincolnton GA. Volunteers of the CSRA Equestrian club of Augusta and BCMSG partnered with the Corp of Engineers to complete a major renovation of the day parking area and campground.
There are now 14 camp sites (primitive) with tie lines poles for horses with increased room for access by large trailers and a new central well. All of the sites are waterfront and the fee for camping is only $6/night! (Day use is free)
There are almost 20 miles of wood trails now with miles of natural surfaced roads perfect for riding. No hunting is allowed in the area except for 3 or 4 weekends a year when the area is closed to all other users. (The last dates of closure in 2013 for a hunt November 14, 15, 16.) Unfortunately, reservations are not taken for the campsites, but thus far, that has not been a problem. Overflow campers could also use the perimeter of the day parking if absolutely no sites were available.
The Corps of Engineers would like to see increased use of this recreation area. It is a great area for horseback riding events , boating, hiking, fishing, canoeing.  Bussey trails are maintained by volunteers of the CSRA Equestrians.
